My profile photo recently sprouted fatty-esque anonymity bars across everyone’s eyes.  Ninacan was heard to observe at Errorism that this is an outbreak of Ocularus Incognitus. 

Please remain calm dear readers. 

This is not an ailment. 

This is not a syndrome (in the truest sense of the word at least). 

This mark (cyber-tattoo if you will) is caused by right of passage into a secret society.  This mark, along with a nod and a wink, will allow members access to the inner sanctum of a very unique organisation.  An organisation so exclusive it has no name. 

Those of you sharp of eye and quick of mind, may have observed that my beloved children were also indoctrinated with the mark.  I was rapidly reminded that the black bar is the insignia of members bearing complete credentials and allowed full access to all aspects of the organisation. 

My children are presently cadets, apprentices, novices.  Thus the black mark was removed from their cherubic faces and replaced with society ratified coloured bars.  The colours vary depending on age and position within the cadet hierarchy.  A process now mimicked by the coloured belt system used in many martial arts disciplines world wide.

Ocularus Incognitus.

Ocularus Incognitus does exist.  It is not, however, an affliction but rather a motto.  It is the backbone of the society. 

Ocularus Incognitus,

You shall know us,

Not by our eyes,

But by our hearts.

To become a member you must be able to successfully complete two tests.

1. Convincingly deliver the nod and the wink at society gatherings.
2. Operate a photo editing program proficiently enough to install a black bar on the eye region of a photo of yourself (or know someone who can).

You will notice that I have refrained from using the term brotherhood.  There is a very good reason for this.  Membership is not restricted to males.  The membership list already includes both genders and the list grows every… um… well, it’s growing.
